Shut Up And Take My Money: Final Fantasy XII Getting HD Release

ffxii logo

Fun fact: I love Final Fantasy. It is probably my 2nd favorite game series, after Silent Hill. And while Final Fantasy XII isn’t my favorite game in the series (hello Final Fantasy X), it’s still pretty high on the list.

So imagine my utter joy at learning that it’s getting a PlayStation 4 HD re-release.

Titled Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, it’s set to include improvements to the visuals, as well as the score. It’s also going to include certain elements that were in the game’s International version that was not released in the US, mainly a tweaked leveling system that allows you to choose certain classes for the characters (in the original, all the characters could learn every skill, causing the party to feel somewhat homogenized after a while).

We don’t have an exact release date yet, besides being sometime next year. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this, though, and will definitely be buying it whenever it’s released.

To My Utter Bemusement, They’re Making A Tetris Movie

Untitled

So, there is a lie in the title. They’re not planning to make a Tetris movie.

They want to make three of them.

Since I’m aware that simply writing the word “why” over and over again does not a compelling blog post make, I shall actually try to use other words to describe my feelings on the matter.

Ok, I’m just going to ask “why” one more time. Why? Why do they want to make movies based on Tetris? More importantly, how are they going to make movies based on Tetris? It’s a puzzle game. The point is to stack blocks so they make lines across the bottom of the screen. Then the lines disappear. That’s it. That’s as close as the game comes to having a plot.

According to the link above, this is coming through a partnership between producer Larry Kasanoff (who worked on the so-bad-it’s-good Mortal Kombat movie) and a Chinese company called Seven Start Works. According to an article on Deadline.com, the movie is going to take place in China with a primarily Chinese cast. So it’s got that going for it, I guess.

Again, the game has no plot. There is literally no story here besides a bunch of falling blocks. I just don’t see this working.

Unless it looks like this:

That would be fucking amazing.

It’s Official! Idris Elba’s In The Dark Tower

Remember how last November I wrote a post about how Idris Elba was being proposed to play the lead in an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower?

Yeah, it looks like it’s going to happen.

Idris Elba is going to play Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger of a land called Gilead which had fallen quite some time before the beginning of the story. Matthew McConaughey has also been cast as Roland’s nemesis, the man in black.

I am so fucking excited about this. The Dark Tower is probably my second favorite book series (after Terry Pratchett’s Discworld). I have a tattoo that’s inspired by these books. And I like Idris Elba as an actor and, as I’ve said before, I think that he would be a good fit for the role.

I am, however, a little disappointed that it’s going to be starting in the middle of the story, rather than at the beginning. But still, this is exciting news for a production that has been a long time in the making.

Of course, Roland being played by a black actor may piss some people off, because people of color in any role seems to elicit that kind of reaction among, well, racists. But I’m behind anything that pisses off racists, so I have no problem with that.

Did I mention I’m excited about this?

Undertale May Be Coming To Wii U

It was recently revealed that Toby Fox, developer of the extremely popular RPG Undertale, had been approached by Nintendo execs about the possibility of porting the game to the Wii U.

Well, not necessarily recently. This tweet from Fox indicates that this actually happened a while ago, but we’re really just hearing about it now:

Undertale, an RPG about a young child who falls into an underground world populated by monsters, was released last September on Steam. It very quickly became regarded as one of the best games to have been released last year.
