Short Story Saturday: “Smartening Up”

Have you ever read a story that actually kind of changed the way you think about things? Because I just did. That story was “Smartening Up,” the first story in an anthology called Where The Wild Ladies Are, written by Aoko Matsuda and translated by Polly Barton.

First, a shoutout to my younger sister, who got me this book as a Christmas gift. She knows me too well.

Also, as a content warning: the story does have a mention of suicide.

Short Story Saturday: “Christmas on Ganymede”

As you are probably already aware, it’s Christmas next week, so I’m feeling a little festive. So let’s take a peek at Isaac Asimov’s story “Christmas on Ganymede.”

Anyway, today we’re going to take a look at “Lacrimosa” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, originally published in 2015.

Short Story Saturday-“The Little Mermaid”

Most of you probably know the basics of this story, since it was adapted into, y’know, one of the most beloved films in Disney’s animated canon. A lot of you probably also know that the original story was a great deal darker and sadder than pretty much any Disney movie is allowed to be.

So let’s discuss “The Little Mermaid,” written by Hans Christian Andersen and published in 1837.
